Yuliia Khovbosha is a Ukrainian-born sculptor based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Since 2014, she has hand-sculpted over 170 plant species with scientific precision, working in polymer clay, ceramics, and mixed media. Over time, her practice has expanded beyond botanical studies to include sculptures that combine hyperrealism with conceptual symbolism and surrealist elements.
Khovbosha’s art, shaped by her experience of war and migration, explores resilience, fragility, and the connection between people and nature. With a background in TV and cinematography, she uses visual storytelling in her mixed-media art. Yuliia’s sculptures have been shown in exhibitions in the UK, USA, and Canada, including Boomer Gallery in London and Fusion Art Gallery in Palm Springs, where her piece Vicious Circle of Life won 3rd place. In 2023, she was longlisted for the Norval Morrisseau Award for Visual Arts. Yuliia Khovbosha’s work has been published internationally, and she is an active member of CARFAC, VANS, and Craft Nova Scotia.
