JP Legarte (he/she/they) is a genderfluid Filipinx American graduate student at Emerson College in Boston pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) and writing and experimenting against colonialism and empire. He serves as the Community and Grant Development Assistant and a Senior Editor for Brink Literacy Project and F(r)iction and as the Director of Creative Operations and Secretary for Collections of Transience. Their work appears in Rawhead, Breakwater Review (as a 2025 Peseroff Poetry Contest Finalist), the 2025 Boston Mayor’s Poetry Program, and other publication avenues. She has been supported by scholarships, fellowships, and/or acceptances from the Longleaf Writers Conference, Seventh Wave Magazine – The Workshop, Juniper Summer Writing Institute, Lighthouse Writers Workshop Lit Fest, Macondo Writers Workshop, Martha’s Vineyard Summer Writers’ Conference, Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, and other similar programs. Other awards include a 2025 cream city review Summer Contest Poetry Finalist designation and a 2023 Jack McCarthy Book Prize Finalist designation by Write Bloody Publishing.
