Michael Madore grew up in Hartford, CT. He received a BA in English and Art History at Trinity College focusing on manuscript illumination, medieval architecture and nineteenth-century illustrators like J.I. Grandville, Gustave Doré, Theodor Hosemann, and Evert van Muyden. After living in NYC for a few years he returned to CT, and on the advice of a very sympathetic psychiatrist, earned an MFA in Painting at Yale. Madore works from a vast array of influences: Anglo-Germanic nomenclature, fortification schemes, 19th century garden and horticulture magazines, space colonisation, chaos terrain, questionable pond life, Cecidia, coven gossip, and ‘Wand-Work.’ He currently lives in downtown Hartford with his cat Tyrone.
