Shaun Everett Forester is a printmaker and educator based in the American South. He grew up in North Alabama, where regional history, religion, and cultural imagery continue to shape his work. He discovered printmaking while studying art in college and was drawn to its physical process and capacity for mass communication. He later studied woodcut printmaking at Woodcut Bootcamp at Evil Prints, where he learned print history and the technical skills required for large scale woodcuts from artist Tom Hück. Forester earned his MFA in Integrated Arts from Athens State University and is currently producing the Alabama Brimstone series, a body of work in large-scale relief printmaking and politically engaged visual myth-making narratives. He is currently a professor of printmaking at Athens State. Alongside his teaching, he is expanding his studio practice through the production of large-scale prints that examine Southern cultural identity, power structures, and visual traditions.
